Coil-Link™ Intelligent Coil System

Coil-Link™ Intelligent Coil system allows operators to receive real-time information on downhole conditions during milling and other operations. It communicates with surface using mono-conductor e-line, delivering precise, instant information and data about downhole conditions, enabling the ability to make decisions quickly with certainty before problems occur.

Data Sheet

The Benefits of Precise Real-Time Data

Precise Weight on bit (WOB)

Weight on bit (WOB) can be seen at the tool where nothing is seen at the weight indicator at surface. This is especially notable when greater well inclinations are involved. Very small WOB can be seen – even as small as 35lbs. Precise WOB control eliminates stacking too much weight on the bit thus reducing the chance of stalling and generating large cuttings. This in hand reduces the chances of getting stuck.

Precise pull at BHA

Not only can WOB be monitored accurately, but it can also be used to see precise over-pull at the BHA. This is especially beneficial when fishing. A negative WOB is seen at the BHA when over-pull is applied.

Instant Motor Stall Indication

Instantly seeing a motor stall, vibration drops almost to zero, the differential pressure starts to spike immediately and torque spikes to maximum and flat lines. This real-time data is especially very beneficial when milling with co-mingled N2/fluid.
The ability to shut down pumps earlier when stalling, reduces the differential across the motor. Stalls can be recovered from much quicker, even with nitrogen rich drilling fluid. Differential pressure can also be seen after the pump is shut down, this allows the pressure to be monitored and reduced to a safe level before picking up. This prevents reactive torque back-off from the motor or mill bit

Down Hole Annular Pressure at BHA

Monitoring Down hole annular pressure at the BHA is critical if there is a potential to be overbalanced during milling through plug etc. N2/fluid rates can be adjusted to keep the down-hole pressure in the desired range to prevent this scenario.

Down Hole Temperature & Pressure

The down-hole temperature sensor along with the down hole pressure sensor has the benefit of real time monitoring of temperature and pressure changes across different zones and has helped in identifying cross flows and water producing zones.
